The whole is greater than the sum of the parts.
Will they get the gear to work?
Each team will function as a part of a machine that must be put into operation within a defined maximum time. The purpose of the group is to activate this contraption and make the system work perfectly, without interruption, from the first part of it to the end. A metaphor for business life.
Rube Goldberg was an “inventor” and cartoonist who created hundreds of gadgets (in the abstract and in reality) that worked with the activation of a simple piece or movement that unfolded a fascinating, extraordinary, ingenious and spectacular circuit. These machines became known as Rube Goldberg machines. Nobody is indifferent to this type of contraptions and it will be a pleasure to successfully complete the mission of the group. Create the perfect machine!
Each team will receive a kit of materials with which to build a mini-contraption. A machine activated in a simple way and that allows a curious effect, using the kinetic energy to activate (if built correctly) the next team’s contraption. The Rube Goldberg machine will, when finally coupled, form a giant contraption that in the end will activate a projector with a message of success and that will activate a mini-firework that will signal the completeness of the global mission. When it’s time for the truth, the tension will be at impossible levels because no one wants their part of the gear to fail. The tension builds up until the final moment in which the last piece works and signals the success of all the teams and, deep down, the whole group! A story to tell. We will have a staff for each two teams that will be able to unlock any technical problems and advise the teams to test them and review all the procedures so that nothing fails at the crucial moment.
This activity is set to last between 1 hour and 2 and half hours. It will begin with a briefing to the whole group where the details of the activity and all the procedures allowed are explained. Here we will divide the group into teams and deliver the materials that will make up the “gadget” of each team. Ideally, you should have at least 1h30 of running time for it.
